I've recently bought a pre-owned Marantz PM17 KI & CD17 KI and would now like to upgrade my speakers from the Mission 773e's I'm using at present. Problem is I have VERY limited space in which to locate the speakers so I'm looking for a pair of pre-owned, VERY COMPACT floorstanders. Having read various reviews I'm looking out for Spendor S5e's but I'm not sure how good a match these would be for the PM17. Any guidance on this or alternative suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Can I ask the usual questions, your budget and types of music you listen to?

My immediate thoughts were PMC GB1i........

Hi and welcome to the forums. Sounds like the dimensions of the speaker are the critical thing here going by the upper case...! No mention of budget as Graham mentions and likewise, no idea how these would match your gear, but Neat's Motive 2s might be worth a look as they might tick the right boxes for your space requirements. I don't think the Marantz player and amp you have are on the bright side and were very well rated in their day, so this could be worth a look. Review below, expect to spend around £900-odd for them though.

If that's a bit keen and you want to spend less, try finding something on the secondhand or ex-dem routes; you'll pick up a bargain and if you go via a dealer who specialises in this you'll get their support and sometimes a warranty too. Jordan Acoustics and Audio Emotion (both up here in Scotland) offer up to 5 year warranties on their secondhand kit (in many, but not all, cases).

The OP has already stated they are looking for pre-owned gear.

They mention S5e's which go for about £500 second hand so your suggestion of Neat Motive 2's is likely to be twice the asking price of Spendors.

Might I suggest the Totem range (Arrow etc)

As Pedants Corner's up and running for the day, he also mentioned alternative suggestions.

Thanks for the replies. I'm planning to spend around £500 so have ruled out buying new out new - main listening is acoustic based Americana & Folk with some Rock. I'll check out at all of the suggestions and also look up the dealers mentioned. Thanks for now and any other advice to help me avoid a mismatch will be welcomed.

Having carried out some research I'm not quite so fixed on the Spendors now - PMC's look out of my budget even second hand but the Totem Arro's look quite appealing. I guess I just need now to look out for S5e or Arro's in my preferred black ash finish, neither seem to appear frequently on the market so patience will no doubt be required. Thanks again for the assistance.

You can save an eBay search to help you if that helps?

Also, using the time in the interim to demo some kit might give you some more suggestions for a shortlist......
