Speaker Loudness

Ive just bought new speakers(Morduant Short Alumni 2)and coupled them up with my existing amp only to find that they don`t sound as loud as the previous ones.

Is this normal?

I am looking to change the amp which is 65w to a 50w. Does it follow that the speakers will then sound even quieter than they do now?

It sounds like they aren't as sensitive as your old speakers. The 50W amp may well sound quieter too.

Your speakers will sound as loud with 5 watts from the 50 watt amp as they will with 5 watts from the 65 watt amp. The only differences may be i) how far around you have to turn the volume dial and ii) whether you ever listen at the maximum power your current amp can throw out. The first one doesn't make ANY difference, the second one would mean you shoudn't get a less powerful amp.

Why not go listen to the new option?
