HELP any one useing kimber 8TC or russ andwers kimber speaker cable on nami kit,cdx2,nac202,nap200,xps,hi cap,is this cable any good on sound improvement,or any one getting over warm amp

Use Naim NAC-A5 cable with soldered Naim connectors (you should find the connectors in your amplifier box) if you are concerned about an 'ideal' electrical match. At least 3.5 metres per side is the usual Naim recommendation. You will find it mentioned in your amp's instructions.

Any well made, thick, multi-stranded OFC copper cable will be fine though. It need not be very expensive.

The question about the 'over warm amp' is interesting. Do you mean the sound being 'warm' or the amps over-heating?

Any decent cable with correctly terminated connections will not cause amps to over heat and nor should they alter the characteristics of your system.

I would be very suspicious of any claims that a cable can make the sound 'warmer'. (It probably means it is not a very good cable.)

Use Naim's own NACA5 cable or the Linn which is the old NACA 4.

Bear in mind early Naim amplifiers require a minimum length of cable - either contact Naim or ask on their forum for exact details, but I have a vague memory that it's 3m per side.

sorry, yes i ment the amp getting over hot. nami are pushing me to there cable, were i thinking about kimber cable nami tell me the amp could run hot, russ andwers say kimbers its ok. trying to find someone who uses kimber on nami

Unless you already have a load of Russ Andrew/Kimber cable then why would you want to buy it?

Is it supposed to 'correct' some problem with the sound from your system? If so then expensive cable won't really make much difference.

If it is Naim's word against Russ Andrews (regarding the electrical properties of suitable cable) then frankly I am going to go with Naim technical support first.

I'm using way less than 3m per side with my Naim amp.

Whilst i trust Naim has anyone actually, seen any difference between less than 3m, and more than 3m.

This is an honest question, and is NOT an excuse to start a debate on cables!

From Naim's own FAQ and written by a Naim employee....

"Naim amplifiers do not have inductors in the output, we prefer to use
the speaker cable to provide the correct inductance and capacitance.

To do so a minimum of 3.5 metres of cable is required - although the
optimum is around 5 metres. We find the supplied Naim speaker plugs to
be an optimal match for the 4mm sockets we use on our amplifiers."

Now from their power amplifier instructions....

"Loudspeaker cables are vitally important. They should each be at least 3.5 metres long and of equal length. The recommended maximum is normally 20 metres although longer cables may be viable with some Naim amplifiers.

Some Naim amplifiers are designed only to work with Naim loudspeaker cable and using alternatives may degrade the performance or even damage the amplifier."

I would say this applies more to the original poster's NAP200 than their (recent) integrated amps and all-in-one units.

If you wish to 'experiment' with cables of various inductance/capacitance/length etc. then that is your prerogative.

I might get away with it with my Nait 5i, whereas the OP might cause damage to his NAP200. Only you can really say if it is worth trying out with your own equipment.
