Any suggestions for speaker cable for my system?

I have a Marantz PM6005 and B&W 685 S2.

Yes, I use Audioquest FLX-Slip 14/4.

The sound now seems dull, sometimes. Not transparent. The treble are attenuated, not crisp and clear.

Hi mondechristo

Are you already using speaker cables? If so, what cables are they?

All the best

If it's really that bad with your Audioquest cables then a simple cable change isn't going to resolve the problem.

You could try starting with a much cheaper cable and see if this improves anything otherwise I be looking at a speaker change.

Hi mondechristo

Is it with the existing cable or has something changed in the system that has lead to the presentation to now seem dull.

Btw, what source/s are you using please?

All the best

I think you are right my friend!

I will make a few tests with some cables I will borrow from a shop here in Cyprus where I live.

And maybe a brighter speaker is the next buy for me...*scratch_one-s_head*

Hello,

My sources are my computer, turntable (an old Project with Ortofon Red cartridge) and CD player (SACD Sony) . I tested for a few hours the QED Silver Aniverssary XT. I think there was some difference but I am not sure....

My system is new. The amp and the speakers. The sources are old.

Hi mondechristo

Thanks for your reply.

Try the following -

Use the tone controls.

Try the Silver XT again.

Basic 79 strand speaker cable.

And contact your dealer/s that you bought the electronics from.

All the best

Here is a review of the B&W 685 s2 with measured frequency response

http://i.nextmedia.com.au/Assets/bw_685_s2_loudspeakers_review_test_lores.pdf

The amp i feel is a bright sounding amp, mabye lacking a bit bass

Have you tried a more punch, powerfull more lively amp with more sparkle?
Might be worth trying without the speaker grilles. And moving further away from any boundary (wall, floor). If brand new, are they definitely wired in phase?

the B&W's come with port plugs (round spunges).

Try them! They slightly de-emphasise the deeper bass, thereby giving impression of slightly faster and 'airier' speaker. It may do the trick. Also invest in proper B&W (or other good ones) stands, the clear up the bass and improve the imaging markedly. Do NOT use the on a shelf, if you care for sound quality.
