Hi All,

The Upgrade bug has bitten again and am now looking at new speakers my short list has been narrowed down to the Monitor Audio RX6 or the Tannoy Revolution Signature DC6T for the fronts and upgrade the rest at a later date, I am currently using a Denon AVR-3310 with a Marantz PM-7001 driving the fronts, both speakers come in at roughly the same price, but unfortunately there is no where local for me to demo the Tannoy's and would love to hear peoples opinion regarding these two speakers.

Thanks in advance,

Ciaran.

I've got experience of running Tannoy dual concentrics with Denon and Marantz and I'd say give the Tannoys a try. It's always sounded good to me.

However, the speakers weren't of the size you're looking at and I haven't tried the monitor audios.

Hi,

Thanks very much for your reply and am leaning towards the Tannoy's at the moment, but would still love to hear from anyone who has compared the two.

I think you might find the Tannoys have a slightly "dry" midrange compared to the MA. I have demo'd the RX6 but wasn't keen on the appearance and ended up ordering the Tannoys without an audition and to be honest I love them. They take an age to run in and I don't think I would have bought them on the basis of a short demo. The finish is outstanding as well - in another league compared to the RX6 (which themselves are well made / finished). If you look in the reviews section I've added my full review on the Tannoys.

While I haven't demoed the Tannoys, I have demoed the RX6 and found them very good sounding even if I did take the RX8 after a comparative demo since the RX6 still lacked a bit of punch in the lower frequencies.

Thank you so much for your replies guys it really helps a lot and the Tannoy's seem the winner at the moment and just wondering Stereolad what amplifier are you using with the Tannoy's ?

I'm using a NAD C352, never tried them with anything else but I've got a feeling I would get more from them with a slighter more refined amp. The NAD probably has a slightly "full" sound to it and I think probably complements the Tannoys.

And I'm still hoping someone puts my review back, because clearly it would quite useful.

Thanks very much for the reply and would love to read your review and agree about the Nad, have always loved the sound, the old 3020i was my first real amp !! once again thanks for the reply.

No probs. There are now two versions of the Tannoy speakers. The new version seems to be a trapazoid shape rather than curved like the old one. The new version is also supplied with a plinth for stability (like the MA speaker). I don't know what the technical differences are. The old ones are currently available on your favourite auction site for £699 which I personally think is oustanding value.

If you decide to go for them, give them plenty of running in and prepare for them to sound extremely bright and bass light for the first few days at least.

Yes personally I prefer the older shape and as you say there are some great bargains from the original price, Thank you so much for all your advice and really looking forward to my new speakers.
