Source to amp to speaker ratio

I was wondering if anybody uses a specific ratio ,just for example my current set up now original rrp went from

Source £850,amp1k, speaker £700

To source 1k, amp 1k, speaker 1k

Now Source 1k, amp 1k, speaker 2k

I just found that adding a more expensive speaker each time got me closer to higher end audio.

The source did make a vast difference too even though the rrp price was negligible.

I have used the same amp throughout .

I was just curious/nosey, to see how other people divided their funds ratio wise in hi fi , instead of monetary value you can use ratios or both if you wish

I don't usually work within any kind of rrp ratio . just as long as the system is nicely balanced but usually find that the rrp values are all pretty close within two -three hundred pounds of each other....also,with the leaps in modern dac technology you can get away with spending probably the least on these if you plan on incorporating one.....I'd happily run a chord Hugo with amplifiers and speakers of many times more the rrp value.but with turntables/carts I'd be looking for a more balanced set up price wise.

Some thoughts (all imo)

- As a source, Vinyl plays to different rules and requires a much higher percentage of the system.

- The Source has a bigger effect than is often realized and needs to be of a sufficient quality, so as not to hold back the system.

- Speakers seldom have an amp that fulfil their potential.

- A good streamer/dac (like Linn DS), if well designed, should sound better than the equivalently priced CDP, so is the best sound per pound.....IMO.

- My system - 15% on the Source and the balance split evenly between Amp and Speakers.

- I would rather have the speakers properly driven, than showing up the amp.

My setup is currently source-heavy (the TT-side that is).
TT: 2400€
CD: 500€
Tuner: 100€
Amp: 500€
Speakers: 1000€

So my next move will be an amp!

My combo :

Source - 0

Amp - 58%

Speakers - 42%

IAM looking for a source. But considering poor streaming options available at my place. Not going to buy anything for source at the moment.

But good thread. Made me realise what budget I need to atleast consider to get a balanced system. Does it make sense to buy something like the azur 851N to play MP3 from a hard drive :)

Which do you prefer and if you could only keep one, which would it be (if different)?

S1 would be my choice. Unfortunately my 1987 Denon DCD-1500 mkII is RIP. It's would cost $1,700 in todays money. So the balance is now way off.
