Hi,

Are soundbars worth it?, seems like a great idea with new technology creeping up, the idea of being able to mount a bar and then hide a sub, instead of route a load of wires etc....

are they worth it? know any good ones? I dont see many in shops to compare, but Bose Video wave was impressive.

just read the review of the 2200 and I'm quite tempted. Can you tell me if it has a headphone socket? can't seem to find that in the tech specs, and it'd be essential for me for occassional late night movies / gaming 🙂

I'm guessing that as it doesn't mention a headphone socket in the specs (that I could see) that it doesn't have one, but was hoping someone who actually owns one of these could confirm. Seems like an odd thing to leave off...

I guess it depends whether you want 'better' sound or surround sound.

I was dismissive of them until I heard a Marantz one in a shop once – sounded awesome.

I'm interested in the yamaha myself. What would i be losing by going for one of these instead of say a £1000 separates setup? I take it the surround effects won't be as good but how much of a compromise is it?

Compared to my old old Sony SDR-DN1000/ Jamo A102 set up i actually found the Yamaha a large improvement. Its the simplicity that wins it though. I cannot site rear speaker stands as i wish in my room layout, with this i don't need to. The sound quality wins it.

I certainly wouldn't swap mine for another style system ( Still own a Kef 1002 and Denon amp combo but prefer Yamaha). However if you are talking larger speakers in a perfect room then i am pretty certain that would win 'hands down'.
