Having decided to buy a new Sonos sound bar & sub-woofer (but not yet actually bought them) I have now read the review of the Yamaha YSP-1400 in May's magazine. Ignoring the difference in price, has anyone yet compared the sound of the new Yamaha without a sub with the Sonos with a sub?

Am I correct that these 2 are really the only 2 worth considering at the moment?

Is this the correct place to post this forum?

Hi there

if you're budget can stretch to the Yamaha 2200 then I can highly recommend it .yes it's a soundbar but the only sound projector .setting the bar to 7.1 will give you rear sound effects depending on your room size.

check out the reviews .it gets glowing reviews across the board.of course it can't compare to a dedicated 5.1 or 7.1 system but I have a 5x5 room with 3 stone walls and the sound from this thing is amazing.

not 10 out of 10 for music but for movies its awesome .it's more than most will need .no cables and a passive sub.

The Sonos soundbar is surprisingly good with music, its only drawback being that for higher output it needs the sub, but as you are considering this option anyway, then you could well find it the best sounding option for music.

The advantage of some of the Yamaha soundbars is that they can decode a True HD/Master Audio sound formats due to having HDMI inputs and switching, whereas many soundbars are purely an optical connection from a TV to keep things simple.

Many thanks. Very interesting. The Yamaha 2200 is 2 years old now. This means that it has come down in price but should I be going for something newer?

That's very helpful, thanks. I was originally only thinking of the soundbar to play TV & Blueray film music. I have no intention of getting a 7.1 or 5.1 system. However, I do have Sonos 3 speakers elswehere in the house, having ripped my music to a Synology nas.
