sound advice

hello, need some advice, I know that to listen to a music cd, you need a dedicated cd player and stereo amp to get the best sound, but i love my movies which is why i have spent alot on surround sound and just dont have the room for both, but what i want to know is when listening to a cd using my dvd player and surround amp in 2 channel mode, what connection do i use to get the best sound that i can. do i use my digital optical cable or the phono?

denon dvd-3800bd blu- ray player, denon avr-4308a surround amp, and the latest mission 79 series speakers. thanks for replying so quickly.

Well I would expect the analogue outputs would give you the best sound for stereo. However, it may well be worth trying both and see what you prefer.
