SONY STR3500ES for 300 squids, or...?

So if I wanted an upgrade to my existing STRDA1200ES, without worrying too much about the need for 3D pass-thru just yet, are there any other AV recievers for around this amount that would give me better bang-for-my-(intermediate)-buck? Richer sounds have a last few of these at this price, and while I'm aware that WHF gave only four stars when it was reviewed, the price was around double at the time. Five star performer at this price level? Or outperformed by more recent budget amps?

Any thoughts appreciated.

It was actually three stars at £700-800. I got one for my brother-in-law for £350. It's very good.
