I'd say it's more important to match it to the speakers you're using and the size of the room than the amp, it's not really relevant.

Good amp though, I'm still using one for my main system (I don't have a sub, before you ask).

thing is im not even sure if i should be using a pasive one or an active one ?

prefrebly under £100 second hand is fine i do have an 800 watt goodmans tornado in a cabinet but im to chicken to plug that in incase it blows the amp :p

Active, nobody uses passive subs in hi-fi, only cars.
