Please can anyone advise me on the setting up of this receiver. I have connected the HDMI out of the receiver to the HDMI1 input of my Sony KdlW325500 TV. I was hoping the receiver and TV would just sync up nicely with the Bravia sync feature. But if I turn on the receiver, the TV display says audio system active, but there is no sound on the receiver or TV. If I choose TV speaker on the TV menu, the sound from the TV works, but the receiver displays muting. I have no problem with my old CD player playing audio CD's in 2 channel direct on the amp, connected to the analogue SA/CD inputs of the receiver. I also have Sony RDR-HXD770 DVD hard drive recorder which I assume connects to the DVD in input of the receiver. I have sound output through the receiver on this device. But the hard drive recorder keeps losing the TV guide and settings etc, when connected to the receiver. I have tried the control for HDMI devices (both on and off)on all the devices, still with no success. I am hoping it is still a set up issue rather than a faulty amp. Thanks in advance for any replies

Tedmault,

I have a Sony STR-DA2400ES which is at present connected to my LG Plasma TV and it works beautifully without any problems at all.

Can you tell me what the settings on your receiver is at the moment?

The HDMI from the receiver to the TV, only carries signal from the receiver to the TV. It doesn't bring an audio signal back from the TV (Only the latest receivers have an ARC (Audio Return Channel) for HDMI.)

You'll need either a digital connection from your TV to your amp, if your TV has one. Check the back of the TV see if there's an 'Optical' output. Failing that, a pair of regular analogue interconnects can be run from the TVs audio outputs (red & white plugs) to the relevant input on the amp. The same as how you've wired up your CD.

Thanks for the reply.

I have just connected an optical cable from the TV to the receiver, but I am still not getting any sound from the receiver. Only GUI MUTING on the receiver display. I am still hoping this is still just a setting issue.

Thanks again

Page 57 of the manual, how to set up the sound for HDMI connections.

You need the tv connected to the receiver via HDMI for transfer of video and audio with an optical connection for the tv sound output back to the receiver.

I always have mine set to AMP as I never use the TV speakers. Remember, if you choose the other option, multi channel is not output, its restricted to stereo.

Thanks again for the reply

I tweaked around with a few settings but still no luck. Did a reset of the receiver (Which I also tried last night) and suddenly all the inputs are working correctly.

Can anyone please advise of the best way to connect up my Sony RDR-HXD770 DVD recorder. At the moment I have plugged it into the DVD input of the receiver. As the DVD recorder seems to upscale quite nicely, would anyone recommend plugging it directly into the TV rather than the receiver, or would I not be getting the optimum sound this way.

Thanks again for the advice

If it happens again.

Press Gui Mode - the display will show 'Gui Off' for a second and then display 'muting'

Now press the mute button.

DVD/Blu-ray is best through the amp - ideally using the BD hdmi port as that has a shortened electrical path for better sound quality.

Normally u just have the resolution set to 'Auto'.

Also in the menu under HDMI settings - set Control for HDMI to on, and Audio Out to 'TV+AMP' or 'AMP' depending on ur preference.
