SONY RDR-HXD870 updating issue

Hi, a friend of mine has recently purchased the SONY RDR-HXD870. I have the 860, which is fairly similar. He commented that his seems to be displaying 'UPDATING' , up to four times every day. Anyone else who owns the 870, noticed this?

HI I have the 860 and I know that it has received updates to firmware off air,so I would imagine Sony have built the same facility into the 870. You can also download firmware from Sonys site.Try here

Hi, thanks for the response. The only thing that deterred me from thinking it was a firmware update, was the fact that it seems to be updating up to 4 times a day, every day.

Could be updating its Freeview EPG...

Hi Clare....my 860 updates its EPG everyday at the same time, but it is only once a day. It just seemed a bit extreme to be doing it 4 times a day. I'm gonna ask him to keep a closer eye on it to see if it is at the same times each day.
