Hi guys....I'm a total newbie so please bear with me! I bought this sony monster 3 years ago and have only just taken it out of the box...long story....unfortunately I'm using a sky hd box and my pc on the hdmi inputs only. I have no other t.v signal apart from my sky box and as such the machine can't store or even recognise any channels either analogue or digital, nor can I update the software on the t.v. The main problem I'm experiencing is that the set will not automatically swirtch to the hdmi inputs when it receives a signal from either, I'm having to turn 4 and a half grand's worth of t.v to my desired channel by manually switching it! I've spent the afternoon on the phone to Sony and they cant help.....oh dear!

I would appreciate any help on this one....cheers

HDMI do not auto switch like scart! unless the source and tv have hdmi control!! Your tv should have this under av setup but the sky does not! I am not sure about the pc though!!

I hope this helps you out!

Don't know if this helps at all, but for my 46X2000 i use a logitech harmony remote, with the activities set up to automatically switch to the correct input.

Failing that, you can set all other inputs to "Skip" in the rename section and then press the enter button on the (sony) remote which will bring up a list of the two inputs, or just use the AV button to cycle through them.

Cheers Snakey.....the weird thing is this is a replacement for the 40 inch version which would stay on the hdmi channel I last viewed....this thing always reverts to the same, redundant channel at start up!....thanks for the reply though....

Cheers jammoe....have set all the other avs to skip....no joy there. Am doing what you suggest as plan b....trawling through the av menu at start up and manually selecting either 5 or 6...depending on what I'm using.....archaic to say the least!....and definitely not what you'd expect from such a 'high end' sony product.....think it's time to spend my hard earned with another manufacturer....

It's gotta be worth £50 for a logitech (or similar) remote control? It's a cracking TV (slight backlight issues notwithstanding).

It's a monster.....that much I do know! I haven't had a chance to find out the backlight issues yet but I'm just disappointed that it doesn't do at the very least what the 40 inch version did. The £50 isn't an issue.... it's the fact that such an expensive piece of kit can't do what is a basic, basic function! My sister is an avid Samsung fan and has enjoyed rubbing it in my face over the weekend that even her tiny, spare bedroom telly can do what my 'all singing, all dancing, flash monster' cant!....oh well...lesson learned....Samsung here we come!

It's seems a little silly, but how about buying an automatic HDMI switcher?

About £20 should get you a 2 or 3 input switch. I don't have any experience of them, but i'm sure you could have a look on the net for options / reviews.

I guess you'd still have to select the AV channel when you turn the TV on, but the switch should (in theory) work its magic after that.

(The backlight issue on my 46 is very slight. One of those things that i never even noticed until i started reading about).

I've already got one Jammoe...the set only has 2 hdmi inputs and I have sky, a blu ray player and my p.c which has an hdmi output. I keep sky on it's own input and switch between the blu ray player and my p.c on the second input.....it's a wicked little piece of kit...even got a remote with it....£15 on ebay, what more do you want?! Unfortunately I still have to go through the rigmarole of manually switching to either of the 2 hdmi channels on the set at start up.

Well i'm out of ideas then, i'm afraid. The best way is just to use the button at the top left of the remote to cycle through the inputs that aren't skipped (don't bring up the input menu, just use the button to cycle "blind").

I must just say though, it's a truly cracking tv. I've got a bigger Samsung plasma in the living room now, and the 46X is relegated to upstairs. But i still use it every day and it smacks the Samsung silly for picture detail (having spent many hours calibrating both).

(Just one more thing, i went back to using VGA for plugging my PC into it. Just seems to look better, but i only really use it for itunes and some limited web browsing. And it frees up an HDMI.)

How about using a vga cable for your pc and ditching the hdmi switcher, i have a sony 46w4500, ( i know my sig states the hx903, getting at end of month) and it auto switches from my sky to ps3 etc etc, its worth a shot.

p.s would love to know why youve left it in the box for so long? christ, i would have it pretty much unboxed before i got home!
