Had a very quick impromptu demo today at my local Sony Centre alongside some 3D models. Looked good on HD material but rubbish for sound I understand there are some quality control issues re backlight bleeding ( as usual for Sony). Have you seen it for a good price?

Thanks for that.

What you have said is my understanding too. John Lewis have it at £999, it can be had cheaper elsewhere but I'm thinking that it comes with a 5 year guarantee, and should there be backlight problems, I would prefer the backup of their customer service.

Went to John Lewis today. I was impressed with the pic, and there was no backlight problem on the display model.

Ordered one, it will be delivered next Thursday.

Thanks for that Michael.

I am aware there can be problems with this series, which is why I have paid a bit extra, and bought it from John Lewis. If there is a problem then I can rely on their excellent after sales service and 5 year guarantee.

Where did you buy your 40"?

Start talking about damages for your wasted time and spoiled enjoyment over Xmas. After all they sold you a defective TV. You paid good money for a perfect TV and they sold you a load of c***p. They are in breach of contract.

Sue their backsides!

So.............how is the new TV?

We've had some backlight issues on our older 40x20000 but none on the 52W5500, somehow though the backlight "bleed" never seems to impact PQ when playing

TV arrived today.

Not too impressed with John Lewis's delivery. Arrived at 8.00pm, they just dumped it in the middle of my lounge. I asked them if they were going to unpack it and assemble it, but they said "No we just deliver it!"

Dismantled my 40W2000 and took it upstairs, very heavy.

Unpacked the new set and assembled it, one of the bolts attatching to the base was missing so it is secured with 3 instead of 4. Have to phone John Lewis tomorrow.

Set up was easy enough, first impression was HD was a bit soft, but after a bit of fiddling got it to my liking.

The HDMI sockets are in a different place to the W2000, so I will have to get some 2 metre leads. The present pair are 1.5 metre and are too short. Have to *** to maplin tomorow for a pair and an optical lead for the audio out.

No sign of backlight problems, and as it is 24fps enabled I was able to reset my BD player to 24fps

Watching Avatar at the moment, very impressive.

Watch this space.

Tried it with a DVD (Casino Royale)

The black levels were awesome. The black bars top and bottom merged into the black tv frame, so it was almost impossible to tell which was frame and which was a black bar. Tried it with some HD sport, motion excellent, no smearing.

Who needs plasma when you can get a TV as good as this.

Only downside is the sound is rather weedy, but as I will mostly use it with an amp and external speakers this will not be a problem.

For info of others I have motion processing set as normal, and the scene as general.

Excellent TV. Very pleased.

Just shows that reviewers don't always get it right.
