I've recently bought a sony bravia kdl37ex403u and would like to get some recommendations for what would be the best picture settings, i'd appreciate any advice.

The best way i've found is to use the THX optermizer program on discs such as Star Wars III or Terminator 2 Skynet Edition on bluray.

That way you get the best settings for your viewing position and your own eyes!
