Im currently thinking of upgrading my Panasonic DMP-BD30, had it for quite a while now, to the Sony BDP-S370, as it can be had for £135 online at the moment. Just wondering if it would be a noticible upgrade in picture and sound quality over my current blu ray player?

Yes. The loading speed is incredible - very fast. However, I feel the Pana 35 had a better picture quality.

It was the load times of blu rays that makes me want to take the plunge and get it, but I wouldnt like to get it to find that the picture quality is not as good as my Panasonic DMP-BD30, im not sure if the BD35 is better quality than the BD30.

Yes, the BD35 is superior to the BD30, being the next generation model with the P4HD picture procesing technology.

Thanks for your response, so the Sony BDP-S370 will definitely be a step up in picture quality from my Panasonic DMP-BD30?

Yes, definitely. It's also really tiny and light, if that helps.

i too have the panasonic dmp30 and considering a change but imo go for another panasonic dmp 85 which i might do.dont go for sony.

Another great choice. I too after buying the Sony 370 am thinking of getting the BD85.

I only fancied the Sony because it is a great price, and my TV is a Sony. Also according to The What HiFi review this month in the supertest, it beats the BD 85 and all others on pic and sound quality

It does also sound a bit strange for me that for so little money, £135, the BDP-S370 edges players up to twice its price on pic and sound quality.

Yes. How can it possibly be better than the 760 which has technology from the 5000es?? All for peanuts? That's why I had to get it to see it for myself, and like I said, I'm not convinced.

You mean the BD65, not the BD85. The BD85 is in a different price bracket & according to WHF review online today, it's very good.....better than Sony S370 I should say (as it costs twice that of the S370 & still gets 5 stars)......I know it's not fair to compare a cheaper Sony S370 to a more expensive Panasonic BD85!

If the S370 IS REALLY better than the S760 (which is plausible as it's a new generation player with a possibly better technology), then I can't wait for the S770 to be launched!

Ok, thanks everyone for your input, but going back to my original question, as to whether going from my Panasonic DMP-BD30, quite an early model, to the nw Sony BDP-S370 would be a jump in terms of picture and sound quality?

And they (WhiFi) are not lying. I've just brought the Sony and both the Picture and Audio quality are top-notch. But at the end of the day it's your choice. But the sony comes highly recomended

Yes, in isolation. Have you compared it to anything else?

No, don't need to-I'm quite happy with my Sony products and as I mentioned it's a personal choice. I've never compared any of my gear and I've never been let down.

Besides, if I compare the Sony with the Panasonic then I'd have to compare the Panasonic to the Yamaha then compare..you get my point.

Point of interest, all my gear has been rated 5* by WhatHiFi.

I got the Pioneer BDP-320 today and the Sony BDP-S370 has gone to the bin!

Much, much better picture and sound.

owning a ps3, sony 760 and sony 370 whilst the last two are a hugh step up on the ps3 in both the sound, pictures and especially motion stakes the difference between these two is tiny and i am guessing also between similar priced products - how sharp can the picture get! . These two are both pretty faultless - the build quality in the 760 is far greater and you can see where the extra money has been spent! I think a lot now comes down to the make and people impressions of them and possibly even the colour and contrast settings the individule manufactures use

If anything i think the limitations now are in the displays/projectors - use mine with both tvs and projector and even when watching on an 106inch screen the results are stunning. The picture smoothing effects and noise cancelation on sets/players can have a far more drastic effect on the quality of the final picture!
