After having purchased the BDP-S370, I decided to pop in The Lord of the Rings dvd to see how well it upscaled. I couldnt believe how good the picture was, and to be honest, it could easily have been mistaken for actual blu ray quality. I also watched top gear in HD on BBC Iplayer, unbelievable quality, and very smooth streaming quality. Does anyone have any dvd recommendations for me to try, that upscales very well?

'The Battle of Britain.'

I was about to buy it on Blu-Ray in HMV a couple of weeks ago but thought I would play the DVD again first.

Wow!

Try 'Charlie Wilson's War' also.

I had LOTR and on the BDP-S360 it was unwatchable. I have the Blu-rays and the diference was night and day.

I now too have the 370 and while DVD upscaling is indeed very good, I still don't expect the DVD trilogy to come anywhere near the quality of the hd set.

I bought the s370 about (guessing) 6 weeks ago now. Initially I wasnt too impressed with upscaling compared to my LX50 dvd player (to be expected)

But after a period of running in it was easily as good as my LX50 (Which was a shock to me)

This was using a sigmas mains conditioner.

About 2 weeks ago I got my 'balanced mains transformer' to further clean the mains. Now it could be the S370 was unaffected, but the tv picture across the board got far better and I even had to reduce the sharpness from 3 to zero it made such a difference (Which was another shock). The upscaled picture is now awesome, and I do believe the balanced mains has aided the S370 to work better.

My point is that certain electronics definitely perform better (ALL mine have actually) with a cleaner mains supply.

I found the best results were with Bit-streaming from the player to my AV amp.
Whilst I have the previous BDP-S350 unit I cannot see the picture quality improving any more - it is stunning.

Down to the mains conditioning I'm afraid. :)

I am grateful for the quality of DVD replay because we have well over 400 DVDs (not counting many series/boxsets).

Even if they were all available on BD (they aren't and many never will be), that lot would cost well over £5k - £6k to upgrade.
I bought the S370 as - primarily - a good quality (and cheap at £99) means of watching BBC iPlayer on TV rather than computer. It's performance with DVDs is a well received bonus. Performance with BD is
not really an issue as I don't see myself buying more than a handful. (Maybe a few like 'Lawrence of Arabia' or 'Bridge over the River Kwai' when they emerge on BD).
