Hi, I'm interested in purchase the Sony BDP S350 Bluray player when it is released.

I just have a question on connecting it to my amp, if anyone can help?

I understand that it has onboard Dolby True HD decoding. I have an old Sony 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS amp and was wondering how do I connect it to take advantage of the on board decoding? If I use an optical cable to my amp will this work with the onboard decoder?

Also my HD TV is only 720p, the player outputs 1080p. Will it work with my TV?

I'm sure some of you may find these questions abit dumb, but I'm new to this.

Cheers

Yes you can turn down the resolution of the player to 720p, although then a Blu-ray player is arguably of less benefit, and you might be better off with an upscaling DVD player.

However, even if you do decide to go for this player sound will be more of a problem, as the best you will get with your current set-up is standard, non-HD Dolby Digital and DTS sound.

If your current amp has 5.1-channel or 7.1-channel analogue inputs you could use it with a player with onboard decoding and suitable analogue outputs, but the Sony doesn't have such outputs

Thanks for the explanation.

Good excuse to splash out on a new amp!
