Hi all, I was after a little advise please
emotion-2.gif

I took delivery of my new Sony 40W4500 LCD TV last night and so far I am very impressed, or though I did find when watching 24 on DVD last night that on the screens when it all goes black it looks like 4 torches shining in from the corners, is there an adjustment to counter this? I also have a Sony DAV IS10 Home Cinema system and a PS3 on order (due this week).

I would like to know the best way to connect all these up to enjoy the best sound from all! I also have Sky HD box. Currently the HD box connects to the TV via HDMI and to the IS10 via Optical for Surround Sound if I want it.

The PS3 will connect via HDMI to the TV - will this allow 5.1 to transmit to the HC via HDMI on Bravia Sync? On the back of the IS10 there is an Optical, Digital Coaxial and stereo (RED/WHITE) input. Which is the best way to connect all these up to get the best sound from all? I watch SKY & DVD's mainly; I don’t ever watch freeview on the TV.

As the TV and HC are Sony I think I can use the Bravia Sync between them but I am having trouble as the remote will not control any functions when the DVD is up and running? I have configured everything I can find and the when I press the Sync button the HC kicks in and starts up but I can't use the buttons on the controller to play, pause etc...Can shed any light?

Sorry I know there are many questions in here but I am hoping some wise soles can help me out!

THANK YOU!

If you have the new Sky HD box, you should have coaxial and optical inputs. If this is the case, use coaxial to the Sony box. You will then be able to connect the PS3 to your Sony box with optical (I think that's all the PS3 has in way of digital audio). If you only have optical on your Sky box, you will have to use an optical splitter so that you can connect both PS3 and HD box to your Sony box. Hdmi from screen to PS3 will not carry audio through to your Sony box.

Regarding the 4 torches ; it seems that this is a common problem with Sony/Samsung screens of a particular type . Often -but it seems mistakenly - labelled as a 'backlight' problem . The Japanese call it 'mura' ; that being the word for 'cloud' . There appears to be a whole ****storm going down on t'internet about this; it all seems to be U.S. in origin and I've no idea how much of it is true.

What is very interesting is the silence on the subject from our own UK magazines......

But back to your own situation, and first thought would be a replacement from the shop.Second would be to lower the backlight setting to Min. or 1 or 2, and compensate by increasing contrast.

Third would be to dismantle the damned thing and re-assemble it . It seems that the problem is caused by torsion on the panel as it is made to mate with the frame . At least that is what some folk have said. What we really need is informed expertise from someone who actually knows something. Sony , as you might guess , remain tight lipped . Their 'cure' in the States has been a software upgrade which just turns the backlight to its' minimum setting .

Does any tv engineer out there have any real knowledge about this ?
