I am on the brink of buying a Sony KDL-32V4000 tv and Sony RDR-HXD890 dvd recorder. From Amazon the total comes nicely into my budget of £500-600. Questions are:
[*]Am I about to make a mistake?[*]I want operate both from a single remote. Will it do so?[*]As the DVD recorder upscales, will it only do so only on DVDs or will it do the same on the Freeview picture?
Thanks for any and all help.

Hi,the remote on the Sony dvd/hdd recorder will perform basic TV operations for you ,ie volume, channel change and on/off to and from standby.

Pretty sure that recordings off the HDD are upscaled as well. Can watch mine (the 860) on freeview thru the recorder via the HDMI lead so perhaps that upscales as well.Still works when you unplug the ariel lead from between the TV and the recorder.

Thanks Laserman.

Your most welcome. As to your first question only you can decide whether you are making a big mistake or not. Sony dvd/hdd recorders usually get good reviews along with the pannys. Must say I am chuffed with my 860,a super almost indispensable tool and easy to use. See if you can see the tv working somewhere before you commit and by the way trust your own eyes regarding the picture etc. The most important thing at the end of the day is that you are happy with your purchase.

1. Excellent TV, fantastic recorder. No mistakes being made here.

2. The single remote idea is good for basic operation, but frustratingly slow if you want to do anything past basic.

3. The upscaling is applied to anything sent to the tv via HDMI, so yes the freeview is upscaled. You should experiment with the best setting on this though as the tv is only HD ready, so upscaling to 1080p then having the tv downscale again might not have the best results.
