I know the Sony 820 got a great review on these pages, but is it worth that little extra for the Onkyo 606. I know the Sony doesn't upscale but if I'm sending a blue-ray through the Panasonic DMP-BD30 I'm assuming I can get the DVD player to do the upscaling and not the amp. If this is the case is it worth that extra dosh for the Onkyo. Cheers.

Yes, the player can do the video scaling rather than the amp. The Onkyo has 7.1 channel inputs, upscaling to 1080i and biamping, so the question is simply whether you need these extra features and think they're worth an extra £100.

As for performance, the Sony 820 vs the Onkyo 606 is going to be one of the key tests in the AV sector in the next month or so, and we'll be doing a direct comparison very shortly.
