I would like to know the best way to connect the above system:

A) Connect the player with LCD via HDMI; and connect player with receiver via digital coaxial.

Or

B) Connect the player with receiver via HDMI; and connect receiver and LCD via HDMI.

This is the system that I have and would like to know the best way to connect it up.

Yes, your receiver doesn't decode HD audio but it can receive bitstream through hdmi from your bluray player. You will need the latest firmware from Sony for you player to decode DTS HD Master Audio. Connect your screen to your receiver with hdmi and then your receiver to your BD player with hdmi. Just the two cables (make sure they are hdmi 1.3 so you will benefit from 1080p 24fps and automatic lip sync amongst other things).

If you want to play cds with your BD player, I would add a coaxial cable. This will allow your receiver to convert the signal from digital to analogue (it would do it better than the BD player).

so will HDMI 1.3 be compatible with my receiver which is v1.2? If this is an issue then I would assume that option (A) would then be the better choice?

and from what I remember this receiver has a HDMI repeater; and not a HDMI switcher...not certain whether it all matters because i'm clueless on this aspect?

Does anyone out there have an answer on this?

Are you sure it's only 1.2? I had the 1200es and that was definitely 1.3. In any case, it would all work fine - you would not get the auto sync and other extras of the 1.3 spec but I'm 99% sure that your receiver is 1.3.
