I suspect inches are used because they have been for so long. Britain is riddled with such inconsistencies, in that we cover our miles buying fuel in litres, etc etc.
Yes, it’s fascinating isn’t it. Take car tyres: diameter in inches, width in mm. Bonkers!

I remember getting a bonus many years ago and blowing it on a new-fangled flat-screen telly. That was 32”, and a Hitachi, a make that’s almost vanished. It had proper speakers in cabinets that screwed on the sides, so no need for a sound bar. Actually I think we had a Sony 5.1 system for DVDs. The telly cost around £1200, which would get a super LG 55” OLED today!

I Had to laugh at the fella (who looks like he needs fed) mentioning as to the great packaging Sony gave , given that it costs like $20 THOUSAND ..... WHAT was He expecting ??????????????
