Hi guys,

I'm just finishing an extension which is a semi-open space containing a 'snug' with my xbox/prjector, and also the kitchen/diner. I'd like a new wireless system- had a listen to the Sonos Play1 and was impressed for the size.

The room is approx 57m2. The break in the space is the old corner outer wall of the housea and it sits virtually in the middle of the room. The walls are 900mm wide each in an 'L' shape. Would a single speaker system be adequate, or would I need two?

Rob,

The play 1 is good value for money, and does what it does very well. It is great for background listening, but it doesn't have the horsepower to do much more than that. I have a couple of Play1s configured as a stereo pair in a room approximately 60m2. Great over Christmas for background music and drinking wine by the fire. I wouldn't think that 1 x Play1 would be up to the task.

Having said that, you could buy 1 x Play1 and add to it if it doesn't have enough clout. You can also add a wireless sub to give a more rounded performance at a later date if you want. The wireless sub isn't such good value as the Play1 however.

I was a squeezebox fan while they still existed, and technically the squeezebox range was head and shoulders above Sonos. With squeezebox gone, there are a number of alternatives to Sonos, but none offer the complete package of support and the range of product that Sonos does.

Will you be wanting to connect the Xbox/projector to the audio system? It won't be easy to do that with play:1s.
