Just set up a sonos connect player to my cyrus 8 amp, sounding terrific with flac files. This is my TV room zone.

However, hugely disappointed…… the pc that I have set up the sonos software on, which also has my music stored on, is not classified as a zone. The sonos software doesn’t appear to allow me to playback my music on my pc, and after looking at the forums it appears in order to do so I would need to purchase another connect. What a rip off!

Is there a way round this? Or am I missing something? I have a perfectly good soundcard and amp attached to my pc at present and certainly would grudge an extra 279 pounds to make it a zone.

Any thoughts?

As BB says it's controller software, not zone software, all the queue information etc is stored in the Zoneplayers, none of it is in the software, there is no way to make a PC a zone, people have been about this since Sonos first went on sale, I believe it's just simply too difficult to make a software player synchronise perfectly with the hardware players and if Sonos can't get something to sync they won't put it on the market, that's their big selling point.

It's not a rip-off there's no reason I can think of to want to sync a PC with the zoneplayers.

Thanks guys,

The music sounds superb in my theatre room, it is a terrific system. Crikey, ave only had it a day!

I suppose it would have been nice to get a ‘free’ zone and have the music playing in sync in both rooms when entertaining as my pc is in a different room but in a user friendly area.

Ah well, you don’t get anything for nothing these days! Better start saving for the zoneplayers for the rest of the house!

cheers

sorry got to laugh. you could have done this with a SqueezeBox set up.

Still got to ask why you'd want to, there's a million and one music players for PCs out there, just use one of those when you're on the PC.

well if you wanted to then you can sync all the players together including the PC.

not something that i want or need but it is possible.
