Does anyone know if the Nevo SL universal remote would take the place of the Sonos CR200 controller??

Almost impossible to tell from their website, if they've created a Sonos controller app for the remotes then they could connect using the wifi through your wireless router, but there's nothing to indicate they've done that on their website (which is, frankly, a bit rubbish).

I'd be inclined to send them an email and ask them (Nevo, not Sonos).
