So I just bought the NAD C352....

I purchased it from Ebay for 195.00 which I think is a good deal, looks in immaculate condition, just waiting for delivery now but what would you recommend next, the speakers, or the cd player?

I have decided upon the BR2 speakers but wasn't sure if i should change the cd player first, a marantz signature was recommended and the NAD C542 what else do you think would go well with this amp?

I am still undecided as to whether i should risk purchasing a cd player second hand or not

Brilliant buy 🙂 Congrats...

Good choice of speakers; i think they'll partner very well BUT IMO i wouldnt be going for a Marantz amp, esech with a NAD CDP and more so M/A speakers. I think the MArantz would bring out the harshness in the M/A speakers.

You could look for a NAD C542 CDP on eBay; superb partner for the C352 amp but have a look at the lower range of NAD CDP's as well; all will parnter the ~NAD amp and M/A speakers well.

You could also take a look for a decent Arcam 8SE CDP as well.

You could get an Arcam CD72 which is available for near to £200 nearly new or £300 brand new. The best CD player available until you reach the Arcam CD192 which is about £250 more expensive these days. Then you have to get up to £1,200 to reach the new CD37...Arcam may not make the world's best amplifiers, but they make the best CD players available for the money!

Thanks Dan and Hughes, I am keeping a note of the cd players you mentioned although still a bit uncomfortable about budget NAD cd players because it seems they do have some problems and as for the NAD C542, only today did i try and purchase one also and was outbid by 2.00 lol. In the end it sold for 117.00. I am ruing not setting a maximum of at least 140.00 oh well plenty more out there i hope

What are you using to play CDs now?

I owned the NAD C352 and a NAD C521BEE CD Player... based on that experience, I'd suggest skipping the NAD CD player and concentrating on getting good speakers instead... The Monitor Audio should be a nice match...

I had not even considered a DAC magic until I joined what hi fi forum, what does a DAC magic actually do?

All CD players have a DAC (Digital to analogue converter). The CADM is a high quality external DAC the you would normally either use with a computer or a CD transport to achieve a nice sound.
