SkyHD sd quality

This has probably been discussed at length in previous threads, but I thought I'd let everyone know about my recent experiences with SkyHD.

I bought a Panasonic 42G10 a few months ago, very very pleased with it, picture quality fantastic through my Sky+ with a scart. A few weeks ago I decided to upgrade to SkyHD. The picture quality of HD was stunning, but, the quality of everything was worse than before, through an HDMI.

When I said to Sky I wanted to cancel because of the poor SD quality, they first got me to change a few settings , that made no difference, them sent an engineer round, he couldn't do anything.

So, I cancelled the HD pack, the Sky engineer came today to take the HD box away and re-install my old Sky+ box.

Are there are other people who have had a similar experience?

audio i use an optical and have had no problems

video i use hdmi and componant to the tv and try both as sky is only 1080i anyway 60% of programs backfire over hdmi and componant is better, i thought it was my box got that changed than i thought it was my hdmi lead borrowed a £300 lead for a night and then rang sky and they confirmed it and now use a vivanco hdmi.

No problems with mine, tho some channels are pants but that is due to poor quality broadcasts rather than the box. I would sugest setting your boxs output to AUTO as the internal scaler in the HD box is quite rubbish and your TV will do a far better job upscaling SD.

Is your advice based on the old Sky boxes? These were infamous for their lousy upscaling.

I've got one of the new 500GB Amstrad boxes and, like a few others on these forums, find outputting at '1080i' rather than 'Automatic' to be more satisfying.

It shouldn't make any difference if it's old or new Amstrad, they're using the same hardware
