AFAIK, you need it switched on to see anything that's connected through it. That's what happens with my 875, although your amp is much newer.

I don't have Sky, so can't help on that score.

You need to a) ensure the Sky box is set to output Dolby Digital and b) assign the digital audio input to whichever input you're using for the HDMI from the Sky box (presumably CBL/SAT). You can find out how to do this on p40 of the Onkyo manual.

And no, there's no pass-through of HDMI inputs to the TV when the receiver is in standby AFAIK.

thanks for the replys guys but i have done what you say. but as i said it defaults to the sound that the skybox is outputting through the hdmi. i have the optical 1 input assigned to the cable-sat hdmi input and have set the optical out on the sky box as doldy dig. if i plug sky box directly into the tv with hdmi then it automatically switched to the assigned digital input. anymore ideas

Hi There,

There is a HDMI thru mode on the 608, I have mine set up like this - the wife can happly watch telly without the Onk being on. It does use slightly more power in standby mode as it is ready to pass any signal from HDMI.

NB when you receve a dolby signal from the sky box via optical or coax this can not be passed through so you will need the Onk on for this.

Cant remember the exact setting right now.

Ah right, relies on HDMI power control to wake up the receiver. Just found it on P52 of the manual. And p54, regarding audio priority, may sort your other problem.
