Sky+ HD Sound Issues

Hi all, as previous mentioned I had Sky+ HD installed last week.

I have noticed a very annoying issue, if I go into the interactive & browse & play a game (free one) darts for instance all is fine. Then when i'm finished & exit the game & view some tv, hey presto no sound, not even form the optical output to AV amp and I have to plug out the box from the mains & re-boot & all is fine again.

Has anyone else expierenced or come across this before, try it at your own risk though, it's an amstrad box by the way.

Perhaps someone has some more constructive assistance or suggestions?!

As I have signed up for installation of the Sky+HD this Friday, I was disapointed (and surprised) to find out about my mate Dermondo having audio issues with his box. I have subsequently found that there are a number of different manufacturers of the Sky HD box which include, Amstrad, Samsung and Pace.

Are there any significant differences between each box or has anyone else had problems with the Amstrad model as mentioned at the start of this thread ? I feel I would be more comfortable with a Samsung box as I like their products generally but is there anything else I should be aware of ? This is a new arena for me so any (constructive) assistance would be appreciated...thanks.

chudleighpaul:The simple answer to this is use the Sky box for TV only and dont play games!

As previous said only constructive input only any other will be deemed unhelpful.

Hi there Ricardo. Ive been a Sky HD customer for around 2 years and never really had a problem with Amstrad boxes, although I too know that many people on this forum have had in the past. Although I am on my second Amstrad box ( the smaller one of the two) at the moment, my first one turned out not to be faulty at all, but the engineer that came had already given me a new one before realising that the LNB was actually faulty. Even my Amstrad Sky+ box upstairs has been behaving well ( touch wood ) so perhaps its just a case of hoping for the best.

However as a general rule of thumb if you like, the most common faults you may find is that firstly, when you flick through listings for example, the box freezes on occassions, so you have to switch it off at the wall for a few minutes and then back on which usually solves this problem.Having said that though, since the new EPG has been introduced I have yet to reset my HD box since. Secondly as Ive already mentioned, I am on my second LNB ( this is the black square thingy on the end of your dish that the cables go into!) The sign to look for when this needs replacing is the message ' NO SATELLITE SIGNAL IS BEING RECIEVED' when you try flicking on a channel.

I hope this is helpful and that you enjoy your HD box and viewing from friday. You will love the difference in sound and vision that it brings! ENJOY

Hi again, all sorted now it seems the engineer that installed the box last week failed to do an software update, so the service engineer yesterday did so and it sorted out the problem.
