Sky HD Dolby Digital

Please help. I have sky HD hooked up via HDMI to my pioneer plasma for picture and via optical to my Denon 2803 amp for sound. When I play DVDs on my Denon 2800 DVD player the amp auto detects dolby digital and the display changes to that. When watching sky this doesn;t happen - is this normal or I am doing something wrong? The DVD is hooked up by coax to the amp.

Have you checked that your SkyHD is set to ouput dolby D over the optical?

The default output of the optical is stereo unless its changed.

Have you assigned coaxial audio to the hdmi you are using for Sky on your receiver?

I just read your post again; I have a Sony player and Sony receiver and the automatically talk to each other as soon as a disc is played. When I want Sky, I have to click the relevant button on my remote to get it working (on my receiver I can name an hdmi input (Sky HD) and assign the audio connection to the hdmi connection and add lip sync as well).

My amp doesn't have HDMI inputs but you may be onto something with telling the amp to recieve an optical signal - ie to assign one of the optical inputs - thanks, will try that i think.

Sorry if this seems obvious but just checking - you are watching a channel which is broadcasting in Dolby Digital aren't you?
