Just flicked through a number of so called HD channels and I was struck by the lack of HD content.

Although the channel is listed as HD most of the content is plain SD.

When does this become an offence under the Trade Desciptions Act? Surely if the channel is labelled HD then the majority of the programming should be HD, or am I expecting too much?

I don't really get this HD thing. What's wrong with SD? I can't say I've ever watched my HD-ready plasma and wished for more. It just isn't even a slight consideration, the picture looks great.

Personally I would rather a full time channel simulcast in HD showing what content is available in HD than the channel not launching at all because only a portion of their programming is available in HD. Channel 4 is a great example of a good mix. At the beginning most of their shows were SD upscales with a few american series being broadcast in original HD (and they were great to have)- as time has passed C4 has steadily increased the amount of content they produce in HD as a result of the success of the channel. As more and more content is created in HD you will see more of the progamme schedule filled with HD originated content with only older reruns shown in SD upscale.
