Sky HD Audio Interference

I've recently upgraded from a standard Sky box to an HD box.

Unfortunately I'm getting audio interference from the hard drive when watching Sky via an aerial signal (in a second room). Whenever I play back a recorded programme, forward (and reverse) through a programme, or watch a programme whilst recording another, I can hear a crackling noise through my TV speakers that corresponds with the noise that the hard drive makes.

Can anyone suggest a remedy for this problem?

I have already tried the following:

- Changing the RF output (I've tried all of the available channels)

- Replacing all short connecting aerial cables with double-shielded coaxial cable

- Replacing all of the coaxial connectors, which included adding a shielded connector to the cable that carries the signal out of the back of the Sky box

- Adding a ferrite collar at both ends of the cable that carries the Sky signal

All of the above have had minimal effect on the audio interference.

Is my only option to run a scart cable (using approximately 30m of cable) to the second room where I want to watch Sky?

The only other option that has occured to me is to use something like this:

Does anyone have any experience with wireless AV transmitters like this?

I have just spoken with Sky about this and since the box is still under warranty, they have agreed to install a replacement box to see if it resolves the problem.

The person I spoke with said that Sky have no record of this type of problem occurring. Hopefully this means that it's a one-off problem with my box.

Well I've just had a Sky engineer hear to replace my standard Sky box due to sound problems. He would not agree that your problem is a one off. Don't want to say more as I don't want to risk him getting into trouble.

When the engineer turns up with the new box I'll make sure that I ask him if he's come across this problem before.

Replacing my HD box completely solved the problem.

The Sky engineer hadn't come across anything like this before and figured that my original box must have had a dodgy RF outlet.

I'm glad that the problem has been rectified, but I'm not entirely happy with the fact that Sky only supplies refurbished boxes when a faulty unit is more than a month old (mine was just over a month old).

The only upside is that the new unit has an incredibly powerful fan, so I shouldn't have to worry about the power supply overheating and failing.
