Sky HD 5.1 Via HDMI

Interestingly, the new single tuner/non-PVR SkyHD box (Amstrad DRX595) does output DD5.1 over HDMI. So hopefully future revisions of the Sky+HD boxes will be based around the same chipsets.

Dave, this is the one that can stream saved programs from a SkyHD+ box over network isn't it? Do you know if all current SkyHD+ boxes will support this (as the source storage device I mean) or will it only be the latest boxes?

They don't atm. They will allegedly in the future with f/w updates.

When/if these features are added, it most definitely won't work with Thomson HD boxes, they're not capable of running the 'Darwin' s/w that adds the network functions, so aren't even compatible with Anytime+ (Sky have been sending out mail shots to HD subscribers with Thomson boxes offering free replacements for this very reason, over the past few weeks)

As for other makes a box, i've no idea atm, Sky are (as usual) tight lipped about these features.
