Quick question, on optical in/outputs does the quality/strength of the signal that is output differ?

Maybe it's just me but the optical output on my Sky+ box seems much more "week" in signal strength then my PS3 for example, what I mean by that is if I use a 2m optical cable from the Sky+ to my AV setup the sound that comes through is quite "jumpy" and like it's loosing signal, whereas if the cable is connected to the PS3 as the source sound is fine and dandy.

Could it be a dodgy Sky+ box? Or a dodgy cable (must admit, they aren't the highest of quality optical leads).

It doesn't really bother me, as I trackback sound from the Sky+ box via Scart, but it's nigglin me what the answer is!

Yes same cable. Picture/dish reception signal all seems fine, quality of the picture is as expected, some channels worse than others but not had any probs. Perhaps it's just the cable being a bit cack.

hi
I use the optical out from the sky+ to my av amp (onkyo 605) and all the channels are fine and the sound quality is comparable to the Dvd input

Despite our cable belief differences (

), I agree with fr0g on this one in that, if that cable works fine with the PS3, it should work fine with the Sky box. Personally, I'd point the finger at the Sky box...

Hi, I run optical cables from SKY HD box and PS3 to my Pioneer AV reciever. The cable from the HD box is the better one yet the sound from the PS3 is much louder. I didnt take much heed of it, just meant i had to turn the amp down a bit when playing games.
