Has anyone hit audio nirvana with a single manufacturer system (speakers excluded, though not necessarily of course). I was wondering as more manufacturers seem to have source, amp and speakers on sale if there may a reason against?

Why wouldn't someone choose a full Roksan system for example?

Hi Balderdash

As i write this i've got Densen Audio Technologies B-420 XS CDP, DNRG power supply, B-200 Plus pre amplifier & B-320 Plus power amplifier paired to Proac's Tablette Anniversary speakers playing in the background. This system :rockout:

All the best

Love my Rega system! It's on all day from when I get up to when I go to bed!

The only thing missing on your's is the Apolo... ;)

I know that you got your 6004 through the Rega DAC no need for the Apolo, just messing a bit!

My Brio is on the way...

Never had much success with single manufacturer set-ups I've had. I still think you can get better results with the mix and match approach. However, Naim, Cyrus and Rega are notable exceptions. When I've heard these brands they've sounded best used with their own partnering kit.

The traditional thinking is that designing and building (say) speakers is very different to amps. These days, lifestyle demands and simplicity favours complete systems, though even very expensive brands who otherwise make great gear often fall down with speakers IME. Naim and Linn spring to mind, though others will disagree.

The best speakers are usualy from specialists, and of course some buy in speakers and redabge them - like I recall Denon used to with Mission speakers.

I've yet to have a source-amp-speaker arrangement from one manufacturer, though I did have matching Marantz source/amp once and will soon have a Sony combination; the current Sony TA-F630ESD amp, which is excellent by the way, and this'll soon be paired up with a Sony CDP-791 CD player. And maybe one or two others in time...this'll do for now. Sony speakers, or decent ones, are a tad harder to come by and I think that's going to be put to one side.

All that said, yes, you can put together a good system that'll deliver the goodies from one manufacturer. :rockout:

I have a T+A single system (CD/SACD Player, amp and speakers) if you exclude my Tag McLaren DAC and Michell Gyrodec SE turntable. I'm pretty happy with it. If I decided to upgrade I think I'd go for a Krell system.

In the past I've had two Arcam systems. Do sometimes miss my last Arcam one especially the A85.

Closest I had to a one-make source/amp/speakers was a Cyrus 2, Cyrus Tuner (later one with remote) and Mission M73 speakers. Cheating a bit because Cyrus and Mission were different companies by the time the speakers were made.

Not enough people (IMO) make speakers as well as amps well enough to really have much of a choice in one-make systems. If I had to I'd probably go Rega, since they are the one manufacturer (whose equipment I've heard) who are good at all three. Otherwise, I'd choose speakers to go with my (matching) source and amp. It's been a while since I've had them from different manufacturers (they just look better, EDITED to synergy).

Used, I think a nice Sony system would be good based on my experience with the TA-F770ES/DVP-S9000ES, but their decent speakers are hard to find over here. I think its hard to find a single manufacturer that actually does all parts of the system that excel in their markets, Sony for example did with their Amps and CDP's/DVDP's.

New, Rega are the only widespread manufacturer that I can think of that I would pair together, the R1, R3 and R7 speakers have all been brilliant IME.

RS7, Elicit and Apollo-R would be a great system, as would a RS1, Brio-R/Apollo-R. IMO.

I have source, pre amp, power amp from one make, primare, although you have to exclude the Sonos. For a time I also had the t23 tuner, 4 slices of primare stacked together on black and oak wood looked and sounded rather special.

If speakers are to be included, rega is the obvious choice, but I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned ATC. Probably because their CDP is so new. But a combination of either CDA2 - P1 - SCM11, 19 or 40, or CDA2 - SCA2 - SCM50ASL would, at different price points, both look and sound stunning.

As you can see from my signature my source and amps are from Electrocompaniet and even though they work very well with most other brands of equipment when they are put together as a system and connected using balanced interconnects they seem to step up to another level , synergy perhaps ? or maybe they were just designed to work together so they reach their full potential :) .

Electrocompaniet do make a pair of beautiful and very hi tech matching speakers but unfortunately I cannot afford them

They are built from cast aluminium and are an infinite baffle design with a frequency response of 28Hz to 35khz with special internal damping and pre tensioned rods loading the cabinet to 2500 N .
