If you've seen any of my other posts you will know I'm just starting to venture into digital arena after years of "not for me quality is rubbish" , anyway now starting to rip my CD's (Using EAC/Foobar) and BIG issue is "THE" on artist how do most people deal with it ? delete at ripping or edit tags/rename files after ripping.

Dont want everything showing under The , only just started and already got, The Who, The Church, The Beatles , The Cure -

How do you organize your stuff? , also of course another pain is illegal filename characters in album titles for art , working my way around that but any one got any tip for dealing with please let me know.

Edit Another query Do you keep 2 x CDs seperate CD1/2 or just merge into say Pink Floyd/The Wall ??

iTunes handles 'The' OK, so dunno (and I tend to 'search' anyway rather than scroll). It'd probably annoy me though and I'd go through them all and modify them to be 'Artist, The'.

Tend to keep double CDs marked as disc 1/2, primarily because that keeps them under the same cover art.

Yeah, I had this issue too. There are various suggestions around the internet for this, but me being fairly clueless about those long strings of characters in Foobar submenus, I eventually just bulk edited the tags in Foobar to change from "The Artist" to "Artist, The". When I say bulk edit, e.g. you can highlight all your Beatles albums and change every track in one fell swoop. Quick and easy.

I keep them separate. I seem to recall that merging them caused problems for me, but that was back when I was just getting to grips with the whole concept of ID tags, so it's probably because I'd messed something up.

d4v3pum4:I hate iTunes with a passion. Have you tried Mediamonkey?

Agree re Itunes , not tried Mediamonkey went with Foobar as it looks so flexible (and I like tinkering) so I assume the issue can be fixed just not got the time to check into it at the moment. Presume its not a problem with Mediamonkey and is that free version?

Actually, you're all wrong. The name of The Beatles is "The Beatles". Therefore, file under T.

"Beatles, The" is simply not right and offends me (not that much). If iTunes does this automatically then it's another reason to use foobar. What does it do with The The? Change it to "The, The"?

Once you have got your head around the correctness of my argument (it took me some time), the issue goes away.

In so far as double albums....the concept does not exist in my collection. Double albums are a limitation of the media on which they were delivered. These will die, along with CDs. (but may persist due to vinyl).

So, no work arounds required. I'm as smug as the Prof!

, I know what your saying but to me seems 2 many filed under T, I also file solo artists by surname makes them easier to find I feel . Can see having to do a bit of tag editing Anyone know a good free editor or is Foobar as good as any?

Suppose tho thats just me still thinking about finding the physical CD's in racks as opposed to on the computer.

You could delete those Tony Bennet albums.

And I have a lot of artists under S too. What's the solution for that?

Would you believe it! I've just been looking at upgrading my foobar UPnP media server and I've noticed that one of the "bug" fixes incorporate errors into the tagging data i.e. inaccurately rendering, and I quote, "The Beatles" => "Beatles, The".

See here. The offending "fix" is listed under version 0.99.6

Looks like this is going to be another hobby horse for the stable. It seems to be getting more and more crowded the older I get.
