should I use blu ray speaker settings?

My AV amp has auto calibrated my surround speakers. it's set distances, sizes and everything else. My Blu ray player (Sony760) has its own sound setup menu and I was wondering, should I input the speakers sizes and distances in the 760s settings or leave them as were straight from the box. If the amp is already setup, would altering more settings throw everything out?

Cheers

If im not mistaken (and i often am) those settings on the blue ray player is for when you use the analogue outputs, but if you use HDMI you should just leave the settings as they are and let the amp deal with it.

Sort of depends whether or not the signal input through the multichannel analogue inputs bypasses all the digital processing in the amp. In some designs, such as the TAG McLaren Audio processor I use from time to time, the multichannel analogue input is a 'bypass' connection, just feeding to the output via the volume control.

In some receivers, however, the multichannel analogue input may be converted back into digital, punted through all the processing and then converted back to analogue for output, however crackpot that may seem.

So if you have an AV amp with multichannel inputs designed to bypass straight to the volume control and then the power blocks, you should use the player's speaker set-up; if the analogue signal goes through all the DSP, you shouldn't bother - the settings you already have on the amp will do the job for you.

Thank you for the very helpful post Andrew.

Just had a look though the manual and using the analogue inputs does bypass DSP. So looks like I'll have to use the players settings.

Cheers
