Should I upgrade speakers ?
Hi, System is as follows Cyrus CD8se, Cyrus 8vs, Dynaudio 52 SE. (A System which was highly regarded a few short years ago)

I have recently added a pair of Cyrus 8 power amps in mono mode. (This has made a big difference) . Do you guys think that the Dynaudios are letting the side down now ? and if so, what speakers would you recommend to match my system ?

I think it sound great! but do you think spending a couple of grand on new speakers will improve things significantly ?

try to demo some dyn contour s1.4, i had the focus 110, and on a moon amp there was a huge improvement. the size of your room will play a big part, they like a bit of space.

if you need speakers that are less fussy with regard to positioning, consider atc, a different presentation to dynaudio - uncoloured and dynamic with more even bass, imo.

my local shop also recommend spendor with cyrus.

Short answer: NO

I demo'd my Dynaudios recently on the end of a pair of Mono X's as well as a Bryston 4B SST2 (thats £4000 pounds of Canadian uber amp).

The speakers just got better and better. I could tell the difference, and the Bryston made then sing like you wouldn't believe. I think that you have a well balanced system, that may get improvements, but I think you would be better spending the money on a DAC XP and replacing the 8vs. Source and amp first will always give an ACTUAL improvement, and drive the Dyn 52's near to the limit of what they can do.

Tricky one. Your system seems pretty well balanced. The 52's might not be the be all and end all of speakers, but they're are pretty damn good, and go extremely well with Cyrus. As much as I would be tempted to change them, for reasons Craig has mentioned, I think adding more amplification will get more from them, as Jockey has witnessed. I'm not saying go out and buy a Bryston 4Bsst2 (£4,700 uber amp actually Jockey!), well, yes I would actually, as a well designed speaker can never have enough power. Fantastic amp. But it's worth maybe seeing if you can get a home loan on a power amp or two and hearing the difference they make in your system. I think you'll be surprised how much more you'll be able to get from your speakers. Later on, any speaker upgrade you then make would be a huge difference, because you have an amplifier that will properly cope with that upgrade.

£4700 for the 4B SST2?

I suppose recent pound devaluations haven't helped. Will struggle to justify that to her indoors, no matter how good it sounded.

Better listen to a 2B SST2 then!

Thank you for your advice, I think some of my concerns are based on the fact that My Dynaudios are no longer a current model and as a result are not recommended as best buys any more. Speakers like Spendor A6 and PMC etc are flavour of the month at the moment and I am naturally thinking that these are vastly superior . Everyone's comments perhaps should tell me that they are not so much improved and I should just get on and enjoy my system ,stop buying HiFi mags and have holiday with the money I have saved !!
