I'm looking to buy a new LCD Projector (budget up to 2k)

screen width is 81.5".

projection distance (from lens front) is 76"

I currently have a Sony PX21, which has a short throw lens, but it's quite old and I'd like to upgrade.

Will need to be ceiling mountable, HDMI inputs. Prefer 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I'm also looking into getting a projector (Well, to be honest, i've been looking since January, but still haven't taken the plunge!).

The projectors of great quality, with the shortest throw ratio are the Panasonics. The Panasonic PT-AE3000 Is definitely worth considering. Brilliant picture and short throw ratio, with a price thats bang on your budget.

Much as the Pana is great and is one of the most flexible projectors in terms of positioning it wont give you the size at this distance. Can you move the position of the projector?

Bretty if you are looking the majoirty of models are chaning this month so you can either hold on for the new ones ( PTAE4000 in Panasonics case ) or keep your eyes peeled for the bargains that are going on the current models.

Quite a few projector manufacturers are about to release new models, so keep on the lookout for discontinued models that were in the £2k-3k range, which tend to have shorter throw lenses than those normally below £2k.

Thank you, I didn't know that. Unless the '4000 is really stunning, i'll snap up the '3000 for a discount.

Do you have any idea how much a two grand projector would drop, when a new model is issued?

The PTAE3000 is a £2500 PJ ( although the current price is circa £1999). There is not enough stock to last through until the PTAE4000 is available - we expect to be out of stock in two weeks or so.

There will be a good deal on the demo models if you really want a bargain, it depends on demand as to how far the prices fall on boxed stock. We anticipate a small drop from where we are.
