Shocking musical ignorance by mainstream media...

Penny Mordaunt's 3 minute leadership campaign video features stirring 'patriotic' background music... but various news media struggled to correctly identify it.
One said it was 'Jerusalem' (good grief.. don't they watch the Proms?) It isn't.
One said it was Elgar's Nimrod.... (often used on Remembrance Sunday...) It isn't.
The Independent said it was a Rugby anthem...😖 Please......It isn't.
It was actually the hymn 'I vow to thee my country' with a tune by Gustav Holst....which also appears in Jupiter as part of The Planets suite!
Sometimes I really do despair........🙄

My brother's got a fiver riding on Penny - no further comment on that in the interests of forum rules....and the one on politics 🤨

My knowledge of classical music wouldn't win me any prizes (unlike my knowledge of past pop / disco which has actually won me plenty).
So to me, the crime from the media is not that they couldn't identify the music - more that they came up with incorrect guesses and didn't check the facts - which is, sadly, not really a surprise.
