They use a lot more leds than the samsungs as i have seen but no price? i hear they are quite expensive any1 know how much they are gonna be?

We've tested the Sharp LC-52XS1 - a 52in LED-backlit LCD TV that costs a mighty £9000.

You can read the review in our Ultimate Guide to High-End Entertainment, which goes on sale later this week.

I'd expect us to put the review up online in a few weeks' time.

In addition to the top end sets there is a new range due with LED lighting at a lower price point. The LE700 range will be 100hz and run for 32" to 52" . They should be here in August.

£9000?!? i`d rather get a new mercedes! r these prices high b`coz of the new tech or cost more to make?

I'd say the Sharp pricing is a combination of new technology - its RGB LED backlighting is more sophisticated than simpler rivals, allowing for a far wider range of colours and contrasts - build costs (the Sharp is wafer-thin) and a style premium.

Sharp owns a chunk of both Loewe and Pioneer - it seems to have worked with the former on luxury styling and the latter on technology; the sound system in the set is Pioneer-designed, for example.

The rnid range whats the difference between the more expensive one? i didnt know sharp were part of pioneer i thought they left to help panasonic...

tvspecv:am not asking you andrew. clare said they own a chunk of pioneer! duh,

Yes, but that doesn't make Sharp "part of Pioneer", which would suggest that Pioneer owns Sharp.

Indeed - Sharp bought 30 million shares in Pioneer as part of the agreement Andrew mentioned; Pioneer invested in 10 million Sharp shares in the deal (highly simplified explanation!)

We haven't reviewed the cheaper range, but this recent news story explains the differences.

And to further clarify the Sharp situ - it owns 14 percent of Pioneer (making it the largest single stockholder) and 10 percent of Loewe.

XS1 is slimmer, and uses the RGB-Plus coloured LED lighting. LE700 range uses a simpler full array of white LEDs behind the screen

tvspecv:no-reply on what the difference is with the cheaper range.

Much as I would love to contribute all day I do have other things to occupy my time as well.

The 700 series will offer 100hz and standard LED back lighting - not the full RGB as in the XS1. The screens will be slim but not Samsung slim as the screen is backlit not edge lit. The sound system and styling as well as the build quality will be different as you would expect.

The 600 series is very similar but without 100hz. Both ranges are due this August.

I have read on another site that the Sharp XS1 is superior to the Pioneer TV's, but then it should be at that price.

We did a direct, side-by-side comparison of the Sharp XS1 with the Pioneer Kuro for our review - you'll read the results next week!
