Sevenoaks Sound and Vision: pricing structure is confusing.

While out shopping yesterday, I nipped into the aforementioned store in Guildford. had a chat about the Leema brand and asked what the price was: He quoted me £1290, and I asked whether he did ex-dem stuff. He replied NO; and after looking various bits 'n' pieces I left, and when I got home looked on their website. According to their site the Guildford branch has a number of Leema products (ex-dem) below £1,000 mark. Phone him up and they apologised and said that info had to be updated.

I know some companies are a little slow at updating, but I just had the feeling he was trying to pull a fast one....

i guess it would be unfair to call it one way or another , maybe someone else put that info online and he just didnt realise , or maybe he was trying to make an extra few bob for himself , assuming theres only a few people working there , id be inclined to think the latter ..

IME, you do have to do plenty of 'sniffing around' to get the best price at Sevenoaks, although it will always price-match rivals. Main thing that bugs me is its lack of door-to-door delivery when you've bought in-store - 50in plasma, anyone?

Still, the staff seem to know their stuff & are always happy to provide lengthy, multiple demos & don't get tarty if you don't like what you hear/see & decide not to buy on the day. Nor do Sevenoaks stores/staff reek of BO on warm summer days, unlike Richer Sounds.

Sevenoaks seem to get wildly different service ratings depending on the store. Some say they are very good....my personal experience says otherwise.

I've worked for one before - it's because they're mostly franchises, hence the differing opinions.

Only ever dealt with Bromley & Sevenoaks branches myself. Both comparable in their level of service which is polite and efficient but never feels like you're 100% priority when being dealt with.

I'd swap some of that reserved efficiency and politeness for a bit of passion and enjoyment.

Sounds like the words of a man who prefers rear wheel drive to 4 wheel drive.....

As a man who ended up going around a wet roundabout backwards the day he picked up his old Sierra twin cam. I'd say you were right.

Yep...I've dealt with the excellent (Whitham) to the very (very) poor (Watford). IMO just treat them as individual stores and forget that they're a part of the same franchise.

Unfortunately the Sevenoaks brand is not an indication of the quality of the store, but it does indicate what brands are available.

You're right - if they get anymore laid back they'd be horizontal.

Spoke to them earlier today (again) and the person I saw yesterday has got the day off. So I explained what happened: he used the old chestnut of the Franchise. I had to navigate him through their own website to prove how mis-leading it is. He said he would investigate it with head office and phone me back.

(Still waiting)

I have had no problems with the sight and sound shop in my home town.

Remember the stores only as good as the people working in them, if someones a bit of a plonker, i just walk away....

Sales Person at Sevenoaks " you can only come in today if your buying, ha ha "

Me " Goodbye"

I dont get it? If he says its not available at the price you saw, its not available. Why not just move on and spend the time looking for a similar deal?

What he actually said was that due to numerous franchises, those prices are maybe only applicable with certain branches. He's checking it out, although I won't hold my breath....

there is only one Sevenoaks here in Ireland and i have found them excellent to deal with. The guys know their stuff and are extremely prompt in answering queries.

Discount please??? lol

Well, well, well!

They've just called me back to say that Leema are producing a MKII version of the Pulse (demonstrated at the Bristol show) but won't be available until June or July apparently.

However, Sevenoaks have apologised for a mis-leading website, and stated that i can buy a Pulse for the listed price, although he admitted it should be down to the franchised branches (even though it is showing on a non-franchised branch).

I bet Clare will now post the link to say WHFI S&V knew about the MKII version of the Pulse for ages.
