are they directional? do they go from amp to dacmagic or dacmagic to amp?

If the cable manufacturer provides instruction on this then follow their suggestion.

Usually something to do with writing along the cable but I never remember which way it is supposed to run.

If all else fails, make sure the writing on the cable always runs the same way from new (label it if it helps you).

That way, if there is such a thing as cable burn-in or 'conditioning', you are covered.

i was aware that my cable had arrows.... thankyou for clearing that up... but the instructions simply say " the arrows indicate signal direction..." but im using a dac... so is the dac the source or the amp? :S

The DAC is a source as is a CD or turntable or tuner.
