Set up/Connections

I'm a bit of an new boy to HiFi so i'm looking for help please!

I have recently acuired the following: (Sony)

KDL32D T.V;

STR-DA1200 amp;

BDP-s300 Bluray player

SAV-e835-ed speaker system, and also have sky+

I have set it all up as far as I can followng the manuals, although there is a bit of confussion when you study all the manuals as to the best set up. Whilst I'm very new to all this, it is my understanding that HDMI cary HDaudio & video but I have the following proble,

I have set up the ket as follows:

HDMI from Sky+ to AMP

HDMI from Bluray to Amp

HDMI from Amp to TV.

I get picture & sound from both TV & Bluray but the sound comes through from the TV not through the speakers. Also I don't get menus on the screen of the TV when setting up.

There may be a very simple answer to this, if so I hope someone will give it to me!!

There's no audio capability on the Sony receiver's HDMI sockets. You need to run optical digital cables from the Sky+ and Blu-ray player to the receiver to carry the audio. In the case of the BD player, you could also connect it up using six analogue connections from its multichannel outputs to the 5.1-channel inputs on the receiver.

AFAICR, you need to connect a composite or S-video cable from the monitor output of the receiver to a suitable input on the TV in order to see menus.

Hi Andrew,

I took your advicee re the optical digital from the TV which works fine, but didn't work for the Bluray. There's nor specific input on the amp for bluray so connected DVD which presumably is the same. Still nothing. So connected digital coaxel which has given me sound.

Also connected the composite cables from monitor output to the TV but still no menus.

Any advice?
