Hi, When I usually watch tv the room lighting is low i.e. only lamps are in use with >60 watt bulbs. Qhen I change channel or change to an input on the tv where no picture is showing (blank screen) I can see images of logos from the channels I have watched. The brightest logo is the Sky News logo. It's a similar image to when you stare at an object then close your eyes, you can still see the image. Once a picture is showing, you cant see anything unless the screen goes a single solid colour. Is this image retention or nothing to worry about? TV is Pana 42PX70B - just over a month old. Cheers, Cofnchtr.

Sounds like a degree of screen burn or image retention - have you left the screen running with high contrast or brightness on a single channel for an extended period. And does the 'ghost' logo fade after a while? If so, it's nothing to worry about. If not, you may have a problem.

Hi, TV has not been left on a single channel for prolonged periods. Image is only visible when the room is dimly lit or dark. Since my original post, it's been very difficult to see the image during the day or when normal tv is being watched. Its only when everything in the room is dark and there's a blank screen - the image can be seen. The tv is less than 2 months old, brightness etc are set normally and veiwing is not 'dynamic'. I used the THX tests on Star Wars to set levels. Thanks for replying. Cofnchtr.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I had explained everything to my local dealer and he was sending an engineer out Monday past, but because I could not see it over the weekend, I told him not to come. The 'image' cannot be seen at all now - even after watching that channel for 20 minutes. I'm presuming the lighting conditions within my room are contributing and wanted to make sure this wasn't the start of a problem - if it's going to happen, it'll happen to me! If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have none at all! Cheers, Cofnchtr.

I had similar problem last week and thought oh no not me !!!! I recently bought the 42pz70 and watched bourne identity on itv2 last week . When it finished and i turned the virgin box off the tv screen went black and was showing av1 in the top left corner as it should ! When i walked up the the tv to switch it off i noticed i could still see the itv2 logo slightly (like a shadow) also with no lights on in the room , left it over night and nothing since ! has been in cinema mode since i got it ! i did think oh rubbish !!

Have you observed the 100 hour run in period recommended for most screens? According to the high def forum users, there is usually a recomendation that you use the tv at reduced (below normal) contrast / brightness for the 1st 100 hours on plasmas to let the phosphors bed in.

Also, you could try running a break in disc (I cannot vouch for its quality / safety or otherwise as I haven't used it ) but it does seem to be popular with the High Def Forum members:

http://www.eaprogramming.com/

Its a free download (burn to DVD yourself) or can be bought for $6.50 as a ready burnt DVD.

I have a copy burnt to DVD that I've watched on my old CRT. It displays a series of solid coloured backgrounds in rotation.
