Just got the Beyerdynamic DT880 600 omh (premium) today, and it truly sounds amazing imo. (Note this is my first "audiophile" headphones). I have been reasearching a bit for amps and dacs for these headphones. It seems many people recommend the Schiit Vali, since it has such performance for its price. Is it any good with the Beyerdynamic DT880? I use the headphones for personal use; music, movies and some games, and the Schiit Vali is supposed to have warm and fun sound, since it is an tube/tube hybrid amp(?), which is something I want.

In addition to the amp the Schiit Modi 2 is supposed to be good with the Schiit Vali. Is this any good with my headphones?

My motherboard (MSI Z97 Gaming 3) is supposed to have pretty good on-board sound according to the MSI's website. Would I notice a huge difference it sound quality if I were to buy the Schiit Vali and Modi 2?

The main reason for using a headphone amp with high impedance headphones like yours is to get enough power to them which would be unlikely from your motherboard soundcard. You might be getting mixed up with the DAC aspect - some would argue that the DAC in your soundcard is good enough and you don't need an external DAC, many would disagree with that however I don't think there would be any argument against a sufficiently powerful headphone amp substantially improving the sound of those cans. Personally I would go for an amp first then add a DAC later if you feel the need.

The Violectric headphone amps are also considered to be a good match with the DT880's but they are quite a bit more expensive and solid state.

But will I notice a huge difference in sound quality with just getting the Schiit Vali? I got more than enough volume, I would only get an amp if it improved the audio quality. And do I need like lossless files to really hear a difference? I mostly/only use spotify for music.

Also after listening for a while with th DT800's I found out that the bass was balanced and not overwelming, ìt was almost perfect for me, but I would like a bit more bass, would an amp/tube amp improve the bass in any ways?

I don't really want to spend more than 150 bucks, because I have to pay fees (norway) when ordering abroad.

The DT880's are the wrong cans for you then - did you read any reviews? They are pretty much the opposite to a bass lovers ideal and intentionally made that way. Often described as having a "light, airy, detailed presentation"

I doubt an amp will help you.

PS Post in the headphone section and you'll get better advice than I can give you.

I read tons of reviews before I bought them, I just wanted a tiny bit more bass and I was just wondering if an amp would give that. So far I love these headphones. Anyway will an amp improve sound quality in my situation? If it wont provide more bass I am totally fine with it, I am after better sound quality. As I said earlier I more than enough volume provided from my motherboard (MSI Z97 Gaming 3). And I really want to try a tube amp, since I read that they provide a much warm sound. And from reviews I found out the Schiit Vali is the best one to go with, with my budget (150 bucks). I was just wondering if anyone have tried them with the DT880 or other similar.

I really liked them too but went for the Sennheiser HD650 in the end, because it was a bit warmer sounding although it took a lot of time to decide! My O2 amp certainly improves the sound but the alternative is plugging the headphones into my laptop which probably doesn't have much of a soundcard in it - it's more of a business type model than one meant for media.

Maybe a valve amp will warm them up a bit, by reputation you would think so. Have you searched on Head fi forum? There is loads of opinion there.

Oh, I really like my DT880's so far. I am surely sticking with them :D And I use a stationary pc with a pretty decent on-board sound, but I think an amp or tube amp may improve the sound.

I am new here, signed up like 2 days ago. Figured I just ask a question right away, but I will take some time to search around:) So far, after searching on the internet, the Schiit Vali seems the best option for me, I may find something else good for these headphones. (with a reasonable price, ca 150 bucks)
