I have a Yamaha RX 667 and Samsung UE46C8000 and I am able to get Audio Return Channel to work when playing on XBOX but only in PCM mode. I am unable to get it to output DD 5.1 to the Yamaha Receiver?

Is this possible from a device in HDMI 1 and then ARC it via the ARC HDMI @ 2

Is everyone with me?

The 667 is about 3.5m away from the TV in a corner where all the cables etc come in via outside and its not viable to have it located on the hi fi rack with sky, blu-ray, a-200, etc etc as the steering wheel and kinect wouldnt reach to the settee as it would be about 6m diagnally across the room.

Anyone been succesful in this? I have a minor success though whilst playing MKV from TV but its veyr limited on choice of mkv so i only use my popcorn hour for this which is excellent

Not had chance to use ARC on my samsung, but my understanding is that it is for sending audio down HDMI from the internal tuners and features (I.e. Internet TV functions etc.) of the TV set, not a loop through set up.

All the other components you list should be connected directly to the 667 for audio/picture selection when the applicable input is selected.

The ARC works as i get sound through my speakers to the amp, but its PCM even though the xbox is set to DD 5.1. So its almost working.

I cant imagine this is something that isnt hard to implement, if it doesnt already exist

as markjaspi says..

Page 8 of the manual

U only need ARC when watching tv/internet/streaming from network/usb on the TV.

If the source is anything else (eg a blu-ray,skybox,dvd) the sound output from the tv (either optical or ARC) is only 2 channel pcm. (page 10 of the manual)

I'd expect all ur boxes to be plugged into the various inputs on ur amp, and the output of the amp to be connected to HDMI 2 (ARC) on the TV.
