Ok, I have fianally narrowed my choice down to thes 3 LCD TVS

The Philips 42PFL7404 which is on ofer at M&S at around £630 and you get 5years Garuntee

The Samsung LE40B650TWXXU Which is on offer at Argos at a great price of £599 whe you use the discount voucher of £100 found at http://www.argos.co.uk/static/ArgosPromo3/includeName/samsungvoucheroffer.htm?tag=search_sam

or

The Sharp LC40LU700E at £804 at Costco, again with free 5 years Garuntee.

What in your opinion is the better value for money/better TV

All comments apprecaited.

Thanks. Alan

yea , the philips would be my choice from those , whfi even make a case for buying the 7404 instead of a 9664 , given the price difference £750ish ...

I too am in the market for the 42PFL7404H - did you find it for a good price in the end?

M&S are not featuring it at the moment, cheapest I can find online is £699.

Thanks - Jim

With all due respect to the learned fellows who've advised to opt for the Philips 42PFL7404H, before anyone decides to buy said TV, I strongly recommend a gander at the 2 threads below, both of which relate to motion-blur issues with Philips's current USP tech (ie HD Natural Motion), which IME (I own a 47PFL7404) is flawed.

Didn't you narrow down to the three wrong ones? First of all, don't let you too much impose by the LED-hype. The Samsung has a really horrible sound, and disturbing artifacts with their local dimming, the Philips motion issues are known and I find they still have viewing angle issues. Sharp is not what I would consider as a 'top notch' brand (why then not choose f.i. a Toshiba? ;-) ). For me, the Sony Z-series (Z5500) still plays in far a better league then those 3 ones. Also the Panasonic plasma's are really fine, even the 'cheaper' models. At the end when you look around, the price in the shop will come very close to your budget.

I would say you have to define your targets i.e financial limits, which material are you going to watch, then where and at what light conditions and this will give you much better idea which TV to buy. Without all this info all the advices are pretty much meaningless.
